The 2018 elections will include various federal, state, county, judicial and local offices.
Inver Grove Heights holds municipal elections on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even numbered years. In 2018, it will be November 6, 2018. The Primary elections are held the second Tuesday in August. In 2018, it will be August 14, 2018.
Inver Grove Heights holds municipal primary elections when the number of candidates is more than twice the number of individuals to be elected.
The city’s five elected officials include a mayor (two-year term) and four council members (four-year term). The terms of council members are staggered so only two council members are elected every other year.
Absentee Voting without Envelope (early voting)
The implementation of Absentee Voting without an Envelope which allows the voter to complete and cast your ballot starting seven (7) days before the Election. The recent law change was passed by the Legislature in May of 2016. The voter is required to complete an absentee ballot application and a voter certificate. If the voter is not registered the voter must complete a registration application. Once complete, the voter will be able to vote by ballot and cast the ballot into the election equipment tabulator just like on Election Day.
This goes into effect the Tuesday before Elections, hours are 8:00am-4:30pm. Extended hours are the Saturday before the Election from 10:00am-3:00pm and Monday the day before Elections, 8:00am-5:00pm. The location to vote Early or Absentee is Inver Grove Heights City Hall, 8150 Barbara Ave.
