Active Adults Ages 55+
We are excited to offer programs, events and activities tailored to Active Adults 55+ which encourage healthy and active living. A membership to the Community Center or the Senior Club is NOT required for the majority of activities and programs. IF membership is required for either, it IS noted with the specific activity or event.
Most of our activities, programs and events are located at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Community Room 2 (8055 Barbara Avenue, Inver Grove Heights, 55077).
Learn more about the IGH Senior Club below, which is a membership club with annual fees. Senior Club members enjoy discounts on many programs and events, as well as additional program and event opportunities tailored to members.

Changes for the Scoop Newsletter in 2020
As 2020 approaches, the IGH Parks & Recreation Scoop Newsletter will have a new approach. You can expect one more Scoop Newsletter as it has always been in your mailbox shortly after the first of the year. But look for a new way to view the Scoop in early Spring 2020. It will become a part of the IGH Parks & Recreation Brochure with its own section but will still provide the same great content about all things happening for Active Adults 55+, including the monthly calendars! Stay Tuned for more details in January’s edition.
Looking for great camaraderie and fun? The senior club is a group that offers all of that through programs, weekly card games, monthly luncheons and more!
Membership is $8 for the year, which includes discounts on Club activities organized by volunteer members. The membership cycle is Jan.-Dec. Club activities are held at Veterans Memorial Community Center, Community Room 2.
Note: You do not have to be a senior club member to do other Active Adult 55+ programs, events and activities.
Monthly Luncheons with Entertainment
Held the third Monday of every month from Noon to 2 p.m. in Community Room 2:

- 500: Mondays at 1 p.m.
- Penny Bingo: Third Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m.
- Bridge: Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m.
- Euchre: Thursdays at 1 p.m.
Cooler months ahead mean unpredictable weather...don’t let that stop you from being active! The VMCC and area high schools will be open for indoor walking from Sept. 3, 2019-May 31, 2020. So grab your friends and head indoors where the temp. is always comfortable! Walking buttons are required to use each of the facilities. Buttons should be displayed while walking.
Simley High School, South St. Paul High School, Henry Sibley High School and the Veteran's Memorial Community Center (West Rink)* will be open for indoor walking for the following hours:
- VMCC West Rink: Mon.-Fri.: 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
- High Schools: Mon.-Thu.: 5-9 p.m.
Walking buttons can be purchased for 2019-20 season at IGH Park & Recreation Office, the 197 School District Office, the Thompson Activity Center (WSP) or at the Central Square Community Center. Walking buttons should be worn when participating.
Explore different locations and experience arts, culture and camaraderie all in a day! Check out the current destinations and make sure to register to save a spot!
Some trips are planned in collaboration with other communities and include additional pick-up sites. Where you register is where you will board the bus. If you want to depart from Inver Grove Heights, visit the Parks and Recreation Office to register.
Please arrive to the pick up location (where you registered) 15-20 minutes before the listed trip departure time.
No refunds will be issued after the registration deadline.

DRIVER SAFETY: 55+ CLASS
A state-approved accident prevention course taught by the MN Highway Safety & Research Center. Persons ages 55 and older who complete the course also qualify for a 10% discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years*.
*First time participants must complete the 8-hour initial course. Then the 4-hour Refresher Course must be taken every three years to maintain the 10% discount.

METRO DINING CLUB CARDS
Dining Club cards are discount cards to restaurants in the St. Paul area. Many cards include "2-for-1" dining offers, which means you and a guest could go out for breakfast, lunch or dinner and order from the regular menu and receive the second entrée “on the house.”
Pick up a box of 165 cards for $25 now through the end of December. Boxes are sold at the Park and Recreation Office and at Guest Services, both located in the Veterans Memorial Community Center at 8055 Barbara Ave, Inver Grove Heights, 55077.
History Book Club
Every fourth Monday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m., the History Book Club meets to discuss different books selected ahead of time. This is a free, drop-in group, no registration is required.

Pen Pals Program (DARTS)
For 21 years, DARTS Learning Buddies Program has helped match community members with elementary and middle school classrooms, including those in Inver Grove Heights, to enhance students reading, math, and science skills while becoming an intergenerational friend.
The Pen Pals Program specifically matches adults with a 2nd or 3rd grader and they exchange monthly letters from October through May. Then, in the spring, they meet in person at the school to connect and wrap up the year.

UCare Member DiscountsUCare for Seniors members and EssentialCare members are eligible for one $15 discount per calendar year on most community education/recreation programs including trips! Members simply showe their UCare ID card when registering for the trip/class to receive the discount. Members must be enrolled with UCare at the time of the trip/class to receive the discount. UCare Choices and Fairview Choices members are not eligible for the $15 class discount. Other restrictions may apply.
Happy Feet Foot Services - $38
Relax and enjoy a half hour of pampering every fourth Tuesday of the month! A nurse will provide a foot soak, nail trim, foot massage and foot treatment.

for a Free blood pressure check provide by Fairview Health Services.
3-D Gait Analysis
Improve your posture, biomechanical imbalances to prevent injury, ease pain and/or improve your walking or running speed. Your gait will be analyzed and a set of corrective exercises will be prescribed based on the results.
Who can benefit?
Athletes, those recovering from injury or stroke or anyone who wants to improve their walking or running gait.
Analysis is performed by Dr. Greg DeNunzio, DC, BSME Clinical Coordinator- Biomechanics Division Chief of Staff, Sweere Center for Clinical Biomechanics and Applied Ergonomics

Countdown to New Fire Station #2
The City of IGH is anticipating opening its new fire station #2 in late October of this year. Located at 9200 Courthouse Boulevard, the 30,000 square-foot station
will include living quarters for a Duty Crew on-site 24/7, as well as apparatus bays for fire trucks, admin. offices, and shared workout facilities for fire and police staff.

Holidays in the Heights
Join us as we celebrate the holiday season. Kick off the season with the Annual Tree Lighting, on Friday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. Additional Activities include: Breakfast with Santa, Holiday VINGO, Create a Canvas, Candy Cane Hunt and Skate with Santa.
